Gwyneth Paltrow says she and ex-husband Chris Martin were “meant to be together” despite their conscious uncoupling.
In an interview with the UK’s Evening Standard posted on Thursday, the Iron Man actress — who married TV writer/producer Brad Falchuk in September — opens up about her former relationship with the Coldplay frontman.

Despite their split in 2014, the two remain close as they coparent their two children, daughter Apple, 14, and son Moses, 12.
The 46-year-old thespian revealed:
“Family structure can be reinvented and divorce doesn’t have to be devastating… It doesn’t have to be the end of your relationship with somebody. I think Chris and I were meant to be together and have our kids. But our relationship is much better like this: friends and co-parents and family.”
In fact, Paltrow says Martin “is a very close friend,” adding:
“I see him every day, I talk to him every day. And it was very difficult, but I think you see in the children that they got through it, so I am proud of us, I really am. We kept to our commitment that we would put the children first.”
In the interview, Gwyneth also discusses her lifestyle brand Goop, which often garners controversy when they sell or promote items of a sexual nature.
“We do that on purpose… Any time you write or talk about women’s sexual health, there’s a furore. And so we love to poke the bear a little bit. I was always punk rock, always pushing boundaries. We really like to be provocative at Goop. People say, ‘Oh it’s controversial.’ But we’re just asking questions.’”
Additionally, Paltrow doesn’t mind when “people give [her] a lot of s**t” because they eventually “just follow along.”
“I’ve often somehow had a sense of where things are going in this space, and gone towards it and people have followed. That’s why it stopped worrying me or hurting my feelings when I get s**t, because I’m like, ‘I know where this is going.’ The louder they shout, the quicker they adopt!’”
